on a good day

This is how three almost-five-year-old sisters interact:

One of the girls’ friends recently loaned Jasmine a highly coveted pair of Belle shoes.

One afternoon S. Judy decided she was going to wear the Belle shoes, and so she put them on. Jasmine was not pleased.

So, of course Jasmine asked if she could have the shoes back.

“No,” said S. Judy.

Then Jasmine consulted briefly with Cinderella on how to handle this delicate situation.

Cinderella approached S. Judy, saying, “Those shoes are too small for you. You better take them off.”

“No,” said S. Judy.

Cinderella retreated, and she and Jasmine held another pow-wow.

Next, Jasmine put a blanket over her head and snuck up behind S. Judy. “Boo!” she shouted.

A puzzled and slightly amused S. Judy turned around to face Jasmine, saying with her eyes, “What in the world are you doing now?”

“Darn! She didn’t jump out of her shoes,” said Cinderella.
